“Script Bar & Bistro is a very nice restaurant. It has great food (esp. the Mushroom Ravioli which was yum), a good selection of wines and very quick service especially when attending a play at the Sumner theatre. I would highly recommend Script Bar & Bistro and I will return!!!” Cindy dined on Thu 8 Dec 2011 at 6.45pm

“We booked on line and with a phone message both of which were acknowledged within one or two minutes. We arrived early (and) the table was waiting. We ordered promptly, ate beautiful and lovingly prepared food, two courses and beverages, at a leisurely pace and were ready to leave in 45 minutes without feeling any rush or urgency. The waiting staff anticipated everything. Perfect for before theatre or concert as in our case.” Michael dined on Mon 12 Dec 2011 at 6.15pm

“Food is uniformly very good; wait staff are great; makes a wonderful beginning to a lovely night out at the theatre.” Meryl Blair dined on Fri 16 Dec 2011 at 6pm

“Have dined here many times before a live show, Food, drinks and service always excellent. Booking on line and using SMS to confirm bookings etc… excellent – the only way and wish many more restaurants would follow suit. Everyone in our party will be back.” Elizabeth dined on Sat 17 Dec 2011 at 6.45pm

“Script is the perfect venue for pre and post theatre dining. Being located in the MTC Sumner theatre complex, that’s exactly what it was designed for. But it’s not your average ‘venue café’; it’s a good quality restaurant serving well-prepared and cooked dishes supported by a small but excellent wine list. Blackboard specials change regularly and are excellent. And you often get to give a friendly nod to actors you’ve just seen on stage!” Roy dined on Tue 20 Dec 2011 at 9pm

It's hard to believe Melbourne's newest addition to an already bustling nightlife scene has only been open for two weeks. Stepping into Script Bar & Bistro is like walking into a favourite local - there is charm, charisma, a relaxed ambience and also the feeling its been around for years.

With 20 years clocked up between them managing high end function venues such as the Arts Centre and Zinc at Federation Square, you'd expect nothing less from brothers Adam and Brendan Keyte. Located at the striking new MTC venue on Southbank, the usual beer swilling crowd has been replaced with a more sophisticated theatre-loving clientele.

But this is not a place where beret-clad men look down at you while quipping about the new avant-garde masterpiece. Script is a warm and friendly place to relax, where friendly staff cater diligently to local residents, business types and students gathered to dissect the day - or the latest play.

There's an astonishing wine list (29 wines by the glass) and enough local and imported beers to keep the fussiest drinkers happy. There's also an Italian style bistro menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a post-show supper. And with specialty dishes including bocconcini and tepenade ficelle, or green olive salmon, it's comprehensive and focuses on seasonal local produce.

Top it off with what is set to become a Script favourite - chocolate budino, a dark chocolate pudding with warm bitter caramel and double cream. With good food and wine and tempting dinner and show packages on the way, the two week old Script should soon be a Melbourne favourite.

You'd want to be a fly on the wall at Script, the name of the bar and bistro befitting the MTC's Sumner Theatre in Southbank. Ever since the doors were opened by hospitality duo Brendan and Adam Keyte, brothers of Jennifer Keyte, a who's who has paraded in. Diners have gaped over their coffee and vino at Geoffrey Rush, Nicki Wendt, Hugo Weaving, Max Gillies, Missy Higgins and some faces that have strolled in from nearby Aunty, Barrie Cassidy, Jon Faine and Red Symons.
